Join the Network

Formed in 2008 as a peer support network, ESEN has grown to become one of the largest local Social Enterprise networks in Scotland. Now with The Good Stuff Community Edinburgh, we welcome ‘socially enterprising’ businesses and organisations and anchor institutions to join alongside social enterprises to come together to do good things in the city of Edinburgh.

We don’t have specific member categories but the process for joining as a social enterprise and a ‘socially enterprising’ business or anchor institution are different and require different types of information.

The Social Enterprise category includes organisations who either fully or partially adhere to the Voluntary Code of Practice for Social Enterprise in Scotland with either a legal structure recognised as a social enterprise including an asset lock or a clear, written statement of social or environmental benefit included in the governing documents. It also includes new organisations in the first few years of operation who are aspiring to become social enterprises.

If an organisation’s primary purpose is to generate private profit it cannot join as a social enterprise.

Established social enterprises who fully adhere to the Voluntary Code of Practice for Social Enterprise in Scotland, have a legal structure recognised as a social enterprise including an asset lock and are principally or substantially operating or trading in Edinburgh are also eligible to join our parent organisation Edinburgh Social Enterprise Network.

Applications from businesses and anchor institutions who are not social enterprises go through our other route and require applicants to demonstrate how they intend to support, promote and develop social enterprises in Edinburgh in the next year or what social impact they will make through their socially enterprising activities. These organisations pay a membership fee based on the number of FTEs.

All members of Edinburgh Social Enterprise Network and The Good Stuff Community Edinburgh must be incorporated, operating or trading in Edinburgh and agree to abide by our Code of Conduct. Approval and renewal of membership is completely at the discretion of the ESEN Ltd board.

Further details on each application type is provided by clicking below, however if you’re unsure which is most appropriate for you and your organisation please email info@esen.scot and we’ll be happy to discuss it with you.
